Actually we do a lot more than just...Logos and Stationery.

We will work with you on anything you want to throw at us. In the past we have designed things as different as a computer application user interface to a chocolate dispenser to a high tech water feature. If you have an idea and want some helpful hints just gives us a call or drop us a line, there is nothing that we cannot design.

CASE STUDY

Joanna Pearson - Beauty for all

DogTooth has been working with Joanna since she set up her salon back in 2003. After a good start to the business it was clear that a professional identity was needed, whilst still feeling ‘girly’ and contemporary. We were enlisted to help with all aspects of the design.

We produced: business stationery, adverts, pricelists, posters, vouchers, website and other promotional material.

Joanna’s business has gone from strength to strength due to her quality of service and a design that reflects that quality.

DogTooth have been working very closely with Querceus Design on the recently completed Wythall Transport Museum. Querceus Design approached DogTooth after working with us on a few previous projects, they required a design style and artworking of over 90 graphics for this important museum. The museum tells the story of the Public Transport System in the Midlands, through trams, trolley buses and Midland Red, the main bus operator in the area.

Querceus Design were the main interpretive designers on the project, giving the museum hanging banners, interactives and wall graphics which all told this interesting story. The Museum housed over 25 vehicles which visitors could look around.

"DogTooth always comes up with appropriate and exciting ideas on a variety of jobs"

Are You Being Heard?

I am sure you have heard it all before, but words (written or spoken) only convey a small part (7%) of what we communicate to people.

Before man developed the skills to communicate through writing we had pictures, some of which we can still see in cave paintings around the world. The saying goes "a picture is worth a thousand words", this is mostly because a picture, whether it is an image or a logo, enables you to absorb the information much more quickly. The Russian writer Ivan Turgenev wrote "A picture shows me at a glance what it takes dozens of pages of a book to expound." If this is true why do we leave this visual element to chance? Often it becomes the smallest part of our thought process when developing something new.

Think about some of the worlds best known companies like; Nike, McDonalds, Ford, HSBC, BP, Apple Computers. Each one of these companies spends millions of pounds a year so that you remember who they are, and you remember that by what you see

Of course it is true to say that none of these companies would stay where they are if their products were poor or if they didn’t have a grasp of financial matters, but one thing sets these companies out above their competitors and that is their image.

You and I buy the image every time we choose to purchase something from these companies, we choose them over their competitor because we have confidence in them and part of that relationship is built through their visual presentation. This can range from a logo to the design of their packaging, or the interior of a shop or design of their product. Each thing visually represents a company’s core ideals and goals.

Colours, typefaces, lighting, furniture, signage, materials and of course images, say much more than we could hope to communicate to a potential customer in the quickest of glances. We all know that big bright colours and flashes or stars mean sale or cheap and we often associate black or silver with a mark of quality. So the next time you are thinking of a new venture think about what you are trying to say about yourself, your company or the product you are trying to sell and how you can do that through visual presentation.

We help you communicate through...Logos, Letterheads, Leaflets, Flyers, T-shirts, Brochures, Business Cards, Websites, Coasters, Vouchers, Pricelists, Posters, Packaging, Pop-up Stands, Greetings Cards, Banners, Catalogues, Retail / Office Interior Design, Window Stickers, Interior Branding, Vehicle Fleet Graphics, Advertising, Exterior Signage, Shop Graphics, Van Liverys, CDs, Exhibition Stands, Music, Photography, 3D, Video and Digital Presentations.

This recent editorial that was included in a local publication written by DogTooth's MD Rick Jesse.

Using our quick and simple five step process, we can save you money!

DESIGNS-IN-A-BOX was birthed through our experiences of working in large design consultancies. Many small businesses would come looking for an identity, stationery or brochure but just could not afford to pay the thousands of pounds in fees that the consultancies charged.

That is where DESIGNS-IN-A-BOX comes in, basically we produce a design that you are happy with at a cost you can afford. How do we do this? The answer's simple, by having lower overheads DogTooth can pass on the savings to you by way of lower fees.

The key to this is that you supply all the information required to fully brief us at the outset. All the research, checking content etc is done by you which greatly simplifies the design process. Keeping you involved all the way means we do not have to go back to the drawing board and start all over again, thus keeping costs down.

Stage One: The Brief - This is where you tell us any ideas of what you want your new design to look like, for instance if you have any colour preferences and text you need including in the design. An indication as to any timescales or deadlines that we have to work to would also be useful.

Stage Two: Concept Design - This is where we present to you three designs following the information from your brief. We then discuss with you what you do and don't like about the designs and agree a plan of action, i.e. we may take the typeface from one design and a colour from another to make one logo.

Stage Three: Design Development - DogTooth will then create one design following the plan of action we agreed upon in Stage Two and present it to you once completed.

Stage Four: Final Design Changes - This stage allows for minor adjustments to the completed design at the end of final changes you will be asked for your approval of the design work prior to the artwork stage commencing.

Stage Five: Final Artwork - The final artwork will be produced as per the approved design. The artwork will then be supplied to you on a disk as a high resolution 'print-ready' version as well as a 'web-formatted' version that can then be taken to any printer or website builder.

At this point DogTooth can provide a competitive estimate for your stationery, flyers, posters, brochures, advertising, website, external and interior signage, vehicle graphics or other requirements.

Please note, DogTooth operate an open and honest working practice. Upon payment in full, all copyright for the design and artworks will be assigned over to you, for you to use and distribute as you wish.

CASE STUDY

Dot Com Imaging/OSAO

Working with Dot Com Imaging, DogTooth was briefed to design the identity, stationery and advertising for this hosting company.

OSAO provide dedicated hosting for a number of sectors, and with the powerful servers used, the Japanese symbol for power was decided upon for the icon that would accompany the OSAO logo.

This icon was incorporated into the stationery and featured as a major part of their national advertising campaign. Using the theme of "power", several ideas were drafted and the one opposite was the power of a knock-out punch.

Logos

DogTooth provides two services for creating your logo or brand.

ONE: Is from the design-in-a-box series of services, which enables the customer to know how much the logo is going to cost up front. The costs are kept low by the client doing the research. There is a briefing stage, an options stage and finally an artwork stage. Call for the latest price on this service.

TWO: Is more of a bespoke approach, when a client may not really know what they want and requires a little more time to get the job right.

Inside Sixty Five

DogTooth was ask by this new London based band to design and produce their debut EP. We designed and artworked the print material as well as liasing with the CD manufacturer.

Consequently, DogTooth was then asked to produce a website which the band would use to communicate with their growing fan base. The popular forum on the site was set up and managed by DogTooth. We also sent out regular emails to those on the mailing list, which included venue dates, photos and illustrations.

Boarding Edge

As snowboarders and mountain bikers at DogTooth, we had a good relationship with Boarding Edge before we started working for them. We were asked to look at a design for their national advertising campaign, the brief was to give the advert an aspirational feel. We chose a design with an image that was key to the aspirational qualities that were needed and then we incorporated logos of the quality products Boarding Edge stocked.

Since then we have produced business cards, Snowboard UK adverts and YellowPages adverts.

All the work opposite contains bespoke photography taken by DogTooth on site or in a studio environment.

Dot Com Imaging/CCL Finance

Working with Dot Com Imaging, DogTooth was briefed to design the identity, stationery, leaflet and website for this local finance company.

CCL Finance expanded their existing personal finance into the commercial finance market, this required the design to have a more corporate feel over what they already had.

DogTooth designed a flyer and a website which required a design that had to be simple yet effective. This was due in part to the website which was developed by Dot Com Imaging through their WebsiteTurbine technology, which enables a client to update the content on their site.

Ok so its not New York city but North Yorkshire has a lot to offer.

Based in a small market town in the middle of rural North Yorkshire doesn’t sound like a place a thriving design business should be, but thats exactly where DogTooth is based. With clients in the surrounding area and nationally, DogTooth offers all the services you will find in an agency in Leeds or London.

With highspeed broadband we can communicate with any of our nationwide customers with ease. Also, with easy links to York and the GNER mainline, London is just over two hours away.

North Yorkshire has some fantastic countryside and hosts some of the nations greatest historical treasures, but what we love about it is that it is a great place to work and play, with great drivers roads and some excellent places for mountain biking, climbing and surfing.

Scarborough Design/Tonic

Working with Scarborough Design, DogTooth was briefed to design and artwork a brochure and inserts for the Arts & Gardens at the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

This brief required taking the approved designed scamps supplied by Scarborough Design and creating a digital version of the design, which included pieces of art and photographs.

DogTooth have worked with Scarborough Design on a variety of projects including vinyl wall branding, merchandising, retail display stands, exhibition graphics and digital presentations, one of which The Right Honourable Tony Blair, M.P., Prime Minister used to open a new building.

Hear what Gary Scarborough, Director of Scarborough Design Limited says about Rick Jesse, DogTooth MD.

"Working with Rick, I know he will give the same level of thought and consideration to the project as if he was part of the team. His input and attention to detail is invaluable, which coupled with Ricks friendly personality makes him great to work with."

The brief was to story board and film a 'fun' pre-game safety video. The storyboarding of this video took place over a few weeks were we took the brief to incorporate all the key messages that the client wished to get over.

Once the storyboard was agreed the filming began, three days filming were allocated and times arranged with the client. As this feature required some non-acting personel DogTooth enlisted the client and a couple of paintball marshals to assist in the filming.

Once filming was completed we went away and edited the footage down to what you see now, adding post-production effects, transitions, music, text and the all important voice over.

This video is a low resolution Flash version which 5.13 minutes long, if you experience problems please contact us. A higher resolution version can be found by clicking here however Quicktime 7 is required.

Clobber

The owner of this clothing shop had started to trade before the Christmas period but had been unable to book a signage company in sufficient time to get the shop frontage finished. Thats where we can in the client rang up mid week and by Saturday 10.00 the signage was up with no inconvenience to customers or business.

The shop required a simple solution, incorporating and existing logo and applying this as a hardy vinyl to the alluminium frontage. There was also window graphics at eye-level and contact telephone number.

We also do internal retail or corporate branding, applying your identity, images or key statements to your building. Coupled with hanging banners and other signage this can help to improve your retail space or working environment.

NSLC

Working closely with Scarborough Design, DogTooth have created some very interesting merchandising for the National Science Learning Centre.

We supplied artwork for Post-it Notes, Heat Sensitive Coasters, Sweets, USB drives and a whole host of Pens. Most of this merchandise has been used as promotional material at exhibitions they have attended.

The sweets were especially useful when attending school/educational exhibitions as they allowed the client to give the sweets out to children whilst retainging the higher value items for genuine prospects.

We can supply any branded items, including bottled water, chocolate, t-shirts, keyrings, staplers and thousands more items. We like to think we put more thought into your merchandising needs than just specifing colour and logo position, so call us to find out how we can help you.
